West Nile Virus Positive Mosquitoes Detected in Weld County Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment informed the Town of Firestone that West Nile Virus positive mosquitoes have been detected in Weld County in two mosquito pools from Zone 2 and Zone 3 in the last couple of weeks, but that there are no human cases of West Nile virus at this time. The Town of Firestone is located within Zone 3. The Town of Firestone has contracted with Vector Disease Control International (VDCI) to provide the Town with mosquito management: larval (water treatments), adult mosquito surveillance and trapping, and fogging for the 2022 season. VDCI provides the Town of Firestone with weekly trap data, and that information is posted online at www.firestoneco.gov/mosquitocontrol. The Town of Firestone would like to remind residents of the 4D's of mosquito control: Drain - remove standing water from your property and do not over water your lawns Dress - wear loose long pants and sleeves to prevent mosquito bites Dawn and Dusk - avoid being outside during peak mosquito activity Defend - wear EPA approved repellents including DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus and IR3535 View more information from Weld County, including a map of trap zones in Weld County and other seasonal updates here.
