HomeMy WebLinkAboutInaugural Friends of Firestone Day of Service this Saturday! - 9/21/2023Brothers Redevelopment and the Town of Firestone Unite for Inaugural 'Friends of Firestone Day of Service' Brothers Redevelopment, a dedicated housing nonprofit, joins forces with the Town of Firestone to inaugurate the Friends of Firestone Day of Service. This community initiative will unite volunteers and neighbors with a shared commitment to assisting homeowners in need of minor exterior home repairs, painting, and general yard cleanup. On Saturday, Sept. 23, the collaborative eorts of Brothers Redevelopment and the Town of Firestone will extend a helping hand to homeowners at six residences within the Firestone community. This day of service project has been in the works in large part due to Firestone Board of Trustee David Whelan. "For several years, I advocated for an annual Firestone community service event that would address resident's needs; I am proud to see that 100+ volunteers will dedicate their time, talent, and energy to meet those needs during the first annual Friends of Firestone Day of Service", said Trustee Whelan. "I am proud of the work and partnerships that have brought this to fruition, and I'm excited for the future of this annual event." For 45 years, Brothers Redevelopment's Paint-A-Thon Program has painted thousands of senior- owned houses across the metro area and in Colorado Springs for free with the help of more than 133,000 volunteers. The Paint-A-Thon Program allows income-eligible homeowners the chance to beautify their home and save their income to utilize on necessities like medication and groceries. Painting a home exterior can cost up to $5,000. "We are thrilled to launch the inaugural Friends of Firestone Day of Service, a remarkable initiative that embodies the spirit of community and neighborly support. Together with our dedicated volunteers, we are committed to making a meaningful impact by oering a helping hand to homeowners in need of minor exterior home repairs, painting, and general yard cleanup," said Brothers Redevelopment Volunteer Department Director Chad Nibbelink. "This event represents the essence of collective action, where individuals come together to create positive change within the Firestone community." Outside of the Friends of Firestone Day of Service, Brothers Redevelopment works in collaboration with the Town of Firestone to oer accessibility modifications, home safety, minor home repair, and deferred maintenance for homeowners in Firestone at or below 80% Area Median Income.
