HomeMy WebLinkAbout21-108 Supporting Passage of CVPRD Ballot Issue 6A 10-13-2021RESOLUTION N0.21-108 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF FIRESTONE, COLORADO, SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF CARBON VALLEY PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICT'S BALLOT ISSUE 6A CALLING FOR THE IMPOSITION OF A MILL LEVY INCREASE FOR THE PURPOSE OF FINANCING THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF A RECREATION CENTER, OUTDOOR WATER PARK, TENNIS AND PICKLEBALL COURTS ALL LOCATED IN FIRESTONES CENTRAL PARK AND A SENIOR CENTER FITNESS ROOM FOR THE EXISTING SENIOR CENTER. WHEREAS, on August 18, 2021, the Board of Directors of the Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation District ("District") adopted Ballot Issue 6A for consideration at the general election held on November 2, 2021, which ballot issue calls for District taxes to be increased by $2.5 million dollars annually commencing in 2022 through the imposition of a property tax mill levy in the amount of 2.7 mills to fund capital and operational costs; and WHEREAS, for asingle-family home valued at $400,000, the mill levy increase would be approximately six dollars per month or approximately seventy-seven dollars a year; and WHEREAS, such monies will be used to construct and operate within the Town of Firestone's Central Park, a 30,000 square foot Recreation Center which will include a fitness studio, weight and cardio room, full gymnasium including a walking/jogging track, locker rooms, child care center, and a community room; and WHEREAS, adjacent to the Recreation Center, there shall be an outdoor Water Park with slides, a splash pad, children's pool, leisure pool, lap pool along with shade cabanas, locker rooms, and a dedicated food truck location; and WHEREAS, adjacent to the Recreation Center and Water Park there shall also be Tennis and Pickle Ball Courts; and WHEREAS, the existing Senior Center facility in the Town of Frederick will be expanded to include a Senior Fitness Room; and WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Town of Firestone ("Town") finds that passage of Ballot Issue 6A will provide the monies for the construction and operation within the Town's Central Park a Recreation Center, outdoor Water Park and Tennis and Pickle Ball Courts and a Senior Center Fitness Room for the existing Senior Center all of which will benefit the health, welfare, and wellbeing of citizens of all ages within the Town; and WHEREAS, the Fair Campaign Practices Act, C.R.S. 145417 authorizes the Town's Board of Trustees to pass a resolution taking a position of advocacy regarding any ballot issue and reporting and distributing such resolution through the Town's customary means which information is provided to the public. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF FIRESTONE, COLORADO: 4829-85444277.1 The Board of Trustees of the Town of Firestone is in support of and strongly urges all registered electors to vote "YES" at the November 2, 2021 election on Ballot Issue 6A, calling for the imposition of a 2.7 mill increase to the Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation District's tax to fund the construction and operation of a Recreation Center, outdoor Water Park and Tennis and Pickle Ball Courts all to be located within the Town's Central Park and the addition of a Senior Fitness Room to the existing Senior Center.
