Board of Trustees Action Items Wednesday, May 8, 2024 Police Officer Swearing In Ceremony During the meeting on Wednesday night, Officer Jacob Gibbs was sworn into the Firestone Police Department. Officer Gibbs was hired by the Firestone Police Department last fall as the Department's first-ever Police Recruit. The Firestone Police Department sponsored Jacob at the Front Range Community College Police Academy, which started in January, and he graduated earlier this week. Welcome, Officer Gibbs. We know you'll be a great addition to our team! Frontier Estates Items Continued A Public Hearing for Resolution 24-47, a Preliminary Plat for Frontier Estates Filing 2, was opened during the Wednesday night meeting and was continued to the June 12, 2024 Board of Trustees Meeting. Filing 2 is approximately 39 acres in size and is located on the west side of Frontier Street between Sable Avenue and Pine Cone Avenue. The proposed preliminary plat included 189 total lots of single-family detached units. A Public Hearing for Resolution 24-48, seeking approval of the Service Plan for Frontier Estates Metropolitan District, was opened during the Wednesday night meeting and was continued to the June 12, 2024 Board of Trustees Meeting. Resolution 24-51, a Native Water Credit Purchase Agreement for the Frontier Estates development, was moved to the June 12, 2024 Board of Trustees Meeting. Design of the Neighbors Point HAWK Signals Approved At the January 10, 2024, Board of Trustees meeting, Bohannan Huston, Inc. (BHI), as the Town's traffic engineering consultant, presented the outcome of the Neighbor's Point Traffic Study and School Zone Assessment. The study determined that pedestrian-activated HAWK Signals would be an appropriate safety improvement at the intersections of Neighbors Pkwy & Birch St and Buffalo St & Sable Ave. During Wednesday night's meeting, the Board of Trustees approved an agreement with BHI for the design of pedestrian-activated HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk) Signals at the locations identified within the Neighbors Point subdivision, with the design expected to be completed in time to allow for a summer bid date for signal construction. Emergency Ordinance Approved During Wednesday night's meeting, the Board of Trustees approved Ordinance 1042 by emergency, which enacts residency distance restrictions upon sex offenders within the Town of Firestone from designated locations. Sex offenders shall not reside within 1,000 feet of schools; licensed child care centers, child care facilities, and family child care homes; school bus stops; parks including athletic fields and playgrounds; recreational trails; open spaces; swimming pools or splash parks; libraries; churches; and recreation or community centers. The passing of an Ordinance by emergency makes it effective immediately upon adoption. The complete ordinance can be read here. Board of Trustees Vacancy After a discussion during Wednesday night's meeting, the Board of Trustees decided to fill the vacancy created by the election of Mayor Conyac by appointment. The Board of Trustees is now accepting applications from those interested in this position. This position will be a two-year term expiring in April of 2026. Those interested in applying must submit an online application by Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. The Board of Trustees will hold a Special Meeting on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room for interviews of the applicants, with the intention of making an appointment during the Wednesday, June 12, 2024, Board of Trustees meeting.
