HomeMy WebLinkAboutBoard of Trustees Action Items - January 21 - 1/23/2026Board of Trustees Action Items Wednesday, January 21, 2026 National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day During Wednesday nightʼs meeting, Mayor Conyac read a proclamation for National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. This day is recognized annually on January 9 across the U.S. Mayor Conyac recognized and thanked the officers who serve and protect our community every day, those within the Firestone Police Department, and those who live here. Their commitment, professionalism, and service do not go unnoticed. Town of Firestone Special Municipal Election Following the approval of Resolution 26-09 at the Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the Town of Firestone Board of Trustees set a special election for April 21, 2026. Adoption of the resolution establishes the election date, authorizes the election to be conducted as a mail ballot election in accordance with state law, and directs the Designated Election Official to take all actions necessary to administer the recall election. On November 20, 2025, recall petitions were submitted seeking the recall of five elected officials. On December 1, 2025, the Town Clerk issued initial determinations finding four of the five petitions sufficient. Protests to the Town Clerkʼs determinations were subsequently filed, and an administrative protest hearing was held on December 18, 2025, before a hearing officer appointed by the Board of Trustees. Following the hearing, the hearing officer issued a written final determination finding the recall petitions for Trustees Lorna Morton and Raymond Byrd sufficient. Pursuant to state law, the Town Clerk submitted Certificates of Sufficiency for those petitions to the Board of Trustees, requiring the Board to order a recall election within the statutory timeframe. During the election, the Townʼs electors will be asked whether the named Trustees should be recalled and, if applicable, to elect successor candidates to serve the remainder of the unexpired terms.
