HomeMy WebLinkAboutApril 12 Board of Trustees Action Items - 4/14/2023Board of Trustees Action Items Wednesday, April 12, 2023 Approval of New Dog Park Expenditures During Wednesday night's meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the expenditures for a new dog park near the Disc Golf Course parking lot at Central Park. The expenditures include all construction materials, including fencing, crusher fine mix, concrete, and play features. In addition, it includes refurbishing the existing dog park shade structure. Town staff anticipates the work to begin this summer. History During the March 8, 2023, Board of Trustees Meeting, the Board discussed the status of the Dog Park closure project. The Board directed staff to find an alternative dog park location that could be constructed quickly to allow the current parks to stay open until a new park is available. At the Board of Trustees meeting on March 22, 2023, the Board directed staff to move forward with plans and finalizing costs for a dog park at Central Park, near the Disc Golf Course parking lot. Community Survey Contract Approved The Board of Trustees approved an agreement with Polco to conduct a National Community Survey (NCS) this summer. The National Community Survey is the nation's most trusted community assessment of resident opinion. Firestone residents will have the option of completing a survey packet by mail or completing their survey online. Survey results will be verified, analyzed, and compared to communities nationwide and locally. This will be the first community survey in Firestone conducted by Polco. The scope of services includes household sampling of up to 4,500 Firestone households for the NCS, Spanish translation, custom benchmarks, in-person presentation of results, and a half-page of custom questions. Staff anticipates that the NCS will be open for resident participation in June, with results analyzed and returned by September. In addition to the NCS, the agreement includes one year of access to the Polco public engagement platform that will provide additional opportunities to create custom or subject- specific surveys and polls to gather community input. Historic Firestone Waterline Project On Wednesday night, in two separate actions, the Board of Trustees approved contracts for the Historic Firestone Waterline Replacement Project #2. The first is a contract with Defalco Construction Co. for the construction work of the project. The projects approved in this contract include: Waterline installation and surface improvements on 4th Street between Buchannan Avenue and Granville Avenue, Buchannan Avenue and Granville Avenue between 4th Street and 3rd Street Waterline installation and surface improvements on Wooster Drive 3rd Street surface improvements between Granville Avenue and Buchannan Avenue Jackson Drive surface improvements These areas were selected for Project #2 due to roadway condition, waterline condition, constructability, and overall cost. The second contract is for construction management of the Firestone Waterline Replacement Project #2 by Ditesco. Ditesco worked as the design engineer on the project and submitted a proposal for construction management to assist the Town during construction. Work on the projects listed above is expected to begin in May. The contractor will deliver door hangers to impacted properties notifying them of upcoming work near them. In addition, the Town will send out notifications to the public with additional details and specific timing.
