April 26 Board of Trustees Action Items - 5/1/2023
Board of Trustees Action Items Wednesday, April 26, 2023 Small Business Week Proclamation In recognition of the importance of small businesses operating in the Town of Firestone, the Board of Trustees proclaimed next week, April 30 – May 6, 2023 as Small Business Week. Thank you to all small businesses for choosing to operate your business in Firestone! The Board of Trustees encourages community members to use National Small Business Week to visit their favorite local small business or get to know a new one. Let the business owners know you appreciate that they are a vital part of the Firestone community. For more than 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration has celebrated National Small Business Week (NSBW), recognizing the critical contributions of America's entrepreneurs and small business owners. There are 31 million small businesses in the United States, many of which have made a significant contribution to the country's economy. This annual celebration promotes awareness of small businesses in the community and their success, encourages small business owners, and promotes the resources available to businesses. Rezoning Approved for Vistas at Saddleback A er a public hearing, the Board of Trustees approved Ordinance 1026 to rezone the Vistas at Saddleback property, located at the northwest corner of Grant Avenue and Frontier Street. The property was rezoned from PUD Residential B (PUD R-B) and PUD Regional Commercial (PUD RC) to Residential C (R-C) for 43.23 acres and Neighborhood Center (NC) for 4.25 acres. The new rezoning to R-C and NC is consistent with the 2013 Firestone Master Plan. Zoning (or rezoning) is the step that needs to be completed before beginning the subdivision process and requires action by the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Trustees. Native Water Credit Purchase Agreement A Water Credit Purchase Agreement between Denmore, LCC and the Town of Firestone was approved during Wednesday night's meeting. The Denmore property is 147.33 acres, located on the northwest corner of Firestone Boulevard and Frontier Street and was previously zoned and annexed in 2022, and had a preliminary subdivision plat approved earlier this year. The developers of the Denmore property will need water to satisfy the Town's water dedication requirements for the land being developed. The Town sta determined there is availability for Denmore, LLC to purchase up to 238 Native Water Credits from the Town to be used on the Developer's land. Town sta worked with Denmore, LLC on this Native Water Credit Purchase Agreement to o er the purchase of Native Water Credit from water rights the Town has purchased. Denmore, LLC will be obligated to pay the Town $16,750,000.00 for up to 238 Native Water Credits no more than 21 days a er Final Plat approval or by June 30, 2023, whichever occurs first. Garden in a Box & Slow the Flow Irrigation Audit Programs Approved In two separate actions during Wednesday night's meeting, the Board of Trustees approved two programs for Firestone residents to participate in, with Resource Central – Garden in a Box and a Slow the Flow Irrigation Audit Program. Resource Central is an environmental nonprofit based out of Boulder that focuses on making conservation easy with a ordable and measurable programs. The Garden in a Box program o ers Firestone residents pre-assembled kits with various low- water plants and helpful tips about water-wise gardening at a discounted price. The program will allow 25 residents a $25 discount to purchase a garden in a box from six pre-designed gardens with various low-water plants ranging from $99 to $320 per box. These will be available in May and June for pick-up and planting in July. The Slow the Flow Irrigation Audit program allows Firestone residents to request an irrigation system audit to evaluate the e iciency of their system and receive an Audit Report with best management practices.
