HomeMy WebLinkAbout24-102 BoT of the Town Supporting the SVVSD RE-IJ Proposed Bond Measure 10-23-2024RESOLUTION NO.24-102 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF FIRESTONE COLORADO SUPPORTING THE SAINT VRAIN VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT RE-IJ, PROPOSED BOND MEASURE WHEREAS high quality public education is critical to fostering a vibrant community, social and economic prosperity, preparing youth for the workforce, developing future leaders and furthering the public's health, safety and welfare; and WHEREAS, Saint Vrain Valley School District RE-1J provides public education to approxiamatley 33,000 students including many of the school age residents of the Town of Firestone; and WHEREAS adequate funding for facilities and their associated services is essential for Saint Vrain Valley School District RE-U to maintain its high quality education as demonstrated by its Denver Metro Area highest graduation rate of 93.3% and lowest drop out rate of 0.6% ; and WHEREAS to reach such goals without increasing taxes, the Saint Vrain Valley Board of Education has placed a $739.8 million bond measure on the ballot for the November 5, 2024 election that will provide funds to build five new schools, establish a career and technical education facility for skilled trades, and fields such as cyber security and health care, improve safety and security in school buildings, perform critical maintenance and replace outdated electrical, plumbing, roofing and HVAC systems, repurpose and refresh educational spaces and classrooms and construct learning centers that will enable high school students to enroll in course offerings at any high school in the District; and WHEREAS, as waiting for another five years to address these high priority issues would increase the cost by an additional $200 million dollars the Board of Trustees finds that approval of the bond measure is necessary for the Saint Vrain Valley School District RE-1J to continue the excellent educational opportunities it provides to all within the District; and WHEREAS, the Town of Firestone's Board of Trustees therefore finds that approval of the bond measure is, in the best interests of the Town and its residents and should be supported. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF FIRESTONE, COLORADO, THAT: The Board of Trustee strongly supports and encourages Firestone voters to vote "YES" for the Saint Vrain Valley School District RE-IJ' $739.8 million bond measure on the November 5, 2024 election ballot. INTRODUCED, READ, AND ADOPTED this 23rd day of October 2024. COLORADO
