HomeMy WebLinkAboutTown of Firestone Post-Election Information - 4/6/2020Town of Firestone Post-Election Information While Town Hall is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all election processes are still active. There is no anticipated disruption to the election schedule. View common FAQ’s about the election here. As a reminder, all ballots must be received by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day – April 7th, 2020. After you complete your ballot, you should enclose it in the provided envelope. Once you have sealed your envelope, you must drop it off at Town Hall. If you have any further questions or require assistance, please contact the Town Clerk's Office at townclerk@firestoneco.gov or 303-531-6264. VOTERS Voters in Colorado who have to resolve any missing, non-matching signature or ID issues for their ballot to be processed may do so up until eight (8) days after Election Day. These voters will receive a letter from the designated election official notifying them that they need to cure the issue for their ballot to be counted. UNOFFICIAL & FINAL POSTING OF RESULTS On Election Night, first unofficial results will be posted approximately by 8:00 p.m. Results will be posted at www.FirestoneCO.gov/Election, the Town of Firestone’s Facebook page and NextDoor account and will be sent through Notify Me. The Town Clerk’s Office anticipates final results after the election is certified to be posted on April 17, 2020, those results will include remaining Election Day ballots such as: Remaining Military and Overseas ballots received before the deadline Signature and ID cure ballots received before the deadline UPDATED UNOFFICIAL RESULTS In Colorado, there are several post-Election Day processes to complete including final correspondence to voters, processing and counting of post-Election Day ballots, plus preparation of elections records and certification. The Town of Firestone will update www.FirestoneCO.gov/Election, send out Notify Me messages and post on social media any important information as the finalization of the election proceeds. This information may be subject to change. POTENTIAL RECOUNTS What is the threshold for a mandatory recount? If the difference between the candidate receiving the highest number of votes and the candidate receiving the second-highest number of votes (or yes/no for ballot measures) is less than ½ of 1% of the total votes cast for the candidate with the highest number of votes, there is a mandatory recount. Example 1: Candidate A receives 12,738 votes Candidate B receives 12,541 votes = Difference of 197 Votes ½ of 1% of Candidate A’s total = 12,738 x 0.005 = Difference of 63 Votes Result: NO Mandatory Recount Example 2: Candidate A receives 200 votes Candidate B receives 199 votes = Difference of 1 Vote ½ of 1% of Candidate A’s total = 200 x 0.005 = Difference of 1 Vote Result: Mandatory Recount How long will a recount take? A mandatory or requested recount must be completed no later than the 15th day after the election, April 22, 2020. If there is a recount where will it physically take place? Any recounts will be conducted in the ballot tabulation room at Town Hall.
