HomeMy WebLinkAboutBoard of Trustees Action Items - April 28 - 4/30/2021Board of Trustees Action Items Wednesday, April 28, 2021 STAR Award During Wednesday night’s Board Meeting, Firestone Police Officers, Aaron Androuladakis and Devon Torres were presented with the STAR Award for Outstanding Achievement. During the early morning of February 21st, while out patrolling, Officer Androulidakis smelled a strong odor of smoke. After calling in his concern, he drove around looking for a source thinking it might be a fireplace or fire pit dying out. It turned out to be neither of those, but a house emanating smoke from its roof. Officer Torres joined Officer Androulidakis. Together they attempted to notify the homeowner. After receiving no response they went around back and observed a significant amount of smoke through the home’s sliding glass doors. When the fire department arrived they were able to assess and extinguish the fire and determine that no one was inside the home. Because of the actions of these officers the home was saved. Additionally, Officer Androulidakis was recently commended by a resident after he assisted a woman walking her elderly dog at 2:30 in the morning. The woman expressed concerns about her dog’s condition. After hearing her concerns, Officer Androulidakis parked his car and walked with her until they reached her home. His kindness and compassion were clearly felt by this resident. Firestone Board of Trustees Conducts Annual Performance Appraisal of Town Manager The Firestone Board of Trustees completed its annual appraisal of Town Manager, A.J. Krieger, during an Executive Session on Wednesday, April 28th. The Board recognized Mr. Krieger for several notable accomplishments in his second year as Town Manager and recognized his leadership during the pandemic, a time in which many other municipalities struggled. At the conclusion of the appraisal, the Board of Trustees and Mr. Krieger discussed priorities for the current year and the Board thanked him for his service and dedication to the Town of Firestone. Lobbyist Presentation & Current State Proposed Bills The Town of Firestone Board of Trustees received an update about the first quarter of 2021 at the State Capital from the Town’s Lobbyist team. The Lobby Team monitors all State proposed bills, and provides information on how they would impact the Town of Firestone, should they be approved. From that page you can also read each of the proposed bills by clicking the bill title within the document. 1st Quarter Financial Review During Wednesday’s meeting, Jessica Clanton, Director of Finance, gave the Board of Trustees an update on the Town’s financials from the 1st quarter of 2021. A few notable highlights: General Fund revenue is up 24% from this time last year. A big contributor to the increase is building permits which is up 81% from prior year. Sales and Use Tax has increased $212,000 or 25% from last year and is right on- track with budget projections. Spending in all Funds aligns with budget and expectations. REMINDERS: The Board continues to meet about the Central Park Master Plan Project during our Work Sessions, held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 19th.
